Talk by Dr. Najat Aoun Saliba, chemistry professor and Lebanese Member of Parliament, on how academic work and feminist activism have responded to environmental devastation in Lebanon

Dr. Aoun Saliba's talk, "Turning Tough Choices Into Scholar-Led Transformation," will discuss how ac Middle East Studies,ademic work and feminist activism have responded to environmental devastation in Lebanon. She will delve into how universities can play a pivotal role in leading both top-down and bottom-up strategies for adapting to and mitigating the impacts of climate change, using Lebanon as a case study. Dr. Aoun Saliba is a member of the Lebanese Parliament and Associate Professor of Chemistry at the American University of Beirut. She serves as a member of the Scientific Board of the International Basic Science Programme (IBSP) at The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, and as Chair of the Technical Advisory Group on the Global Air Quality Platform and Health (GAPH-TAG) at the World Health Organization. She has received the L’Oreal-UNESCO International Award for Women in Science, and was included twice on the BBC’s annual list of the top 100 most influential women in the world. Co-sponsored by the Center for Sustainability Education and the departments of environmental studies, environmental science, women's, gender & sexuality studies, Middle East studies and French & Francophone studies.
