Dickinson Dinner Club

October 28, 2019

Matt Pinsker, professor of history and Pohanka Chair in American Civil War History, will lead a guided small-group conversation about the Dickinson & Slavery Project over a private four-course dinner.

Matt Pinsker will discuss the future of the Dickinson & Slavery initiative and how it might reshape the campus landscape and college memory. The initiative is part of the House Divided Project. It aims to explore the college's historical ties to slavery and antislavery and to provoke a discussion about how the college might better commemorate this often difficult past.  Launched in 2018, the Dickinson & Slavery initiative has already produced a series of thought-provoking programs, exhibits and reports.  Dickinson is now the only school in Pennsylvania that has officially joined the Universities Studying Slavery consortium. Pinsker will bring some traveling panels from the campus exhibit for participants to view. Those who want to study the information in advance, however, may read the online companion:  http://housedivided.dickinson.edu/sites/slavery/ Space is limited. Please register by Wednesday, October 23.
