More than 1,500 alumni and families of current students came together on campus for Homecoming & Family Weekend, three days of celebration, reconnections, exploration and fun. This year’s gathering featured a variety of favorite small- and large-group gatherings and learning opportunities, as well as the launch of the Alumni of Color Conference.
The conference offered an opportunity for alumni to connect and discuss their experiences at Dickinson and beyond and to meet with campus leaders who work to develop and sustain a robust community of students and alumni of color at Dickinson. Presented by the Popel Shaw Center for Race & Ethnicity and the Office of College Advancement and previewed last summer, the inaugural event included a student-alumni mentoring session, alumni panels on professional development, a student performance at Landis House and more.
The weekend also was highlighted by perennial favorites, like the homecoming game and Dickinson Athletics Hall of Fame ceremony and class and club reunions, such as the panhellenic & interfraternity party. Dickinson families and alumni were invited to drink in a Trout Gallery lecture and exhibition as well as continuing-education presentations and workshops.
Families and alumni curious about today’s campus had many opportunities to walk in current students’ shoes. In addition to campus tours and information sessions with college leaders, they took part in an all-campus expo, where they learned about current initiatives and programs directly from professors, directors and students. Some also sampled the Dining Hall’s certified-green fare and attended performances by student a cappella groups, the Mermaid Players and Run With It!, the college’s improv comedy troupe.
The comedy show, billed as the 25th-and-a-1/2 anniversary performance, was one of weekend’s three special anniversary events. InterVarsity Christian Fellowship & Dickinson Christian Fellowship hosted a Friday-evening social in honor of its 65th year, and the Mermaid Players highlighted its seven-decade history during a pre-show meet-and-greet for alumni thespians and a post-show reception for students, parents of current cast members, Mermaid Players alumni and theatre & dance faculty.
During halftime of the Homecoming Weekend football game, the new members of the Dickinson Athletics Hall of Fame were honored and posed for photos with interim President Neil Weissman, Director of Athletics Joe Giunta and Vice President for Enrollment, Marketing & Communications Stefanie Niles:
