Student-faculty environmental studies project looks at making climate programs affordable for all

by Tony Moore

Curiosity drives everything at Dickinson. In labs, studios, archives and communities around the world, students and faculty are asking questions big and small—and often finding surprising answers. Here's a look at a recent query.

Department: Environmental Studies

Researchers: Associate Professor of Environmental Studies Heather Plumridge Bedi, Se’phira Amen ’25

Project:

“Community partnership building to increase access to affordable clean energy”

Why it matters:

Our research questions what barriers disadvantaged communities face in accessing affordable, clean energy in Binghamton and how enhanced community building can generate new policy solutions and increase access to climate adaptation and mitigation programs. We will characterize current barriers and opportunities to affordable clean energy experienced by environmental justice communities in Binghamton. We will use enhanced community building to identify interventions that can address energy poverty and increase access to climate adaptation and mitigation resources.
