Alumni in the financial industry welcome students through a two-day Burgess Institute excursion

The Burgess Institute for the Global Economy and the Center for Career Development recently took students to New York City, meeting with alumni at RBC Capital, JPMorgan Chase, Lazard and Kudu Investment Management.

During the two-day Wall Street Career Trek, students met with alumni across financial services firms, gained insight into careers on Wall Street and built connections through site visits and a networking reception.

The trip was reserved for first-year students and sophomores, making the experience truly unique, allowing attendees to make connections long before they graduate. And the alums on hand had a lot to say about how Dickinson also helped them on their career trajectory.

“The reason that I'm at my job here today at JPMorgan is because of a network connection that I made through my time at Dickinson," said Sue Simpson ’92, regional trust team lead JPMorgan Chase.

“The Center for Career Development was a really important resource for me,” said Matt Stone ’09, managing director with RBC Capital Markets. “It helped me put together my first resume, it helped me think about applying to jobs, it helped me get internships.”

Looking ahead, Jedd Nadler ’29 said that getting out into the finance world and meeting alumni like Simpson and Stone was the most important part of the trip: “I've learned a lot about finance, and regardless if I end up going into the finance industry, the connections that I made during this trip will help me throughout my life.”
