Eleven Dickinson students recently traveled to Philadelphia for the 2025 National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) Regional Conference, an enriching opportunity made possible through the generosity of alumnus Darrell Pacheco '12 and the collaborative efforts of Dickinson's Center for Career Development.

“By attending the conference, students built on their classroom knowledge, giving them greater confidence and a deeper understanding of how to navigate their career pathway,” says Sarah Bourdon, the business and arts, media & communications career pathway advisor in Dickinson’s Center for Career Development. “The experience generated enthusiasm, encouraged self-reflection and renewed their understanding of the possibilities available after graduation.”

The competitive program invited students to apply by submitting videos expressing their interest in the conference and outlining their preparation plans. Selected participants then honed their skills through mock interviews before departing on Friday, Oct. 17.

The group attended evening kickoff events, stayed overnight and immersed themselves in a full day of activities on Saturday, including keynote addresses, professional panels and networking sessions with representatives from leading finance, business and accounting firms. Students also benefited from on-site professional headshots and resume reviews.

Geared toward those pursuing careers in business, finance, entrepreneurship and accounting, the experience provided invaluable exposure to industry professionals and real-world career insights.

“Upon returning to Dickinson, students demonstrated a heightened awareness of their professional skills and areas for growth,” says Bourdon. “They also came away with a deeper understanding of how their educational experiences fit within the broader professional context.”
