Sophomore finishes superb season by making it to the second round of the NCAA championships

Collin McMahon-Shea ’27 (quantitative economics) wrapped up a standout season by earning one of just 10 individual spots in the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship—a prestigious honor in a field of 225 competitors from 43 teams nationwide. The feat made him the first Red Devil golfer to reach the NCAA Tournament since the team won the conference championship in 1996.

“Being selected individually for the championship means a lot to me,” says McMahon-Shea. “It shows how far I’ve come since my first year, when we used to joke about how impossible it was. Now it’s real.”

Though he didn’t advance past the second round, McMahon-Shea’s journey to the championship was filled with highlights. He ranked 17th in the country, second in the region and averaged 71.6 strokes per round while notching six top-three finishes and three tournament wins. His efforts earned him a spot on the NCAA Division III PING All-Region team and Centennial Conference Golfer of the Week honors.

“This reflects overwhelmingly positively on the Dickinson program, as we are not seen as one of the ‘golf powerhouses’ in Division 3 but are able to compete with anyone in the country,” McMahon-Shea says. “I was able to hopefully put Dickinson golf on the map nationally and provide recognition to years of hard work.”
