Alumni Executives Engage With Students

Dickinson is celebrating the first semester of its new Burgess Institute executives-in-residence program, which is connecting students with accomplished business leaders to provide them with real-world insights and networking opportunities.

The program brings a diverse group of alumni executives to campus for a variety of events, including lectures, workshops and mentorship sessions. Students have the opportunity to learn from the executives’ experiences, ask questions and gain valuable insights into the business world.

The inaugural executives in residence are Oculus VR co-founder Nate Mitchell '09, who is currently CEO and co-founder of Mountaintop Studios, an independent gaming studio; and Amy Nauiokas '94, founder and CEO of Anthemis Group, a digital financial services investment firm, and the founder and CEO of Archer Gray, a media production company.

“Often times, I think it's really about doing what you love and working really hard at it,” Mitchell told a group of students gathered for a special chat with the founder when he visited in October. “If you're on that path, opportunities really present themselves.”

Nauiokas' November residency included a case study of 2018’s Can You Ever Forgive Me, one of the films her firm financed, and speaking at the college’s Ethics Symposium

“We are thrilled to bring the executives in residence program to our students and provide this unique opportunity to learn from and network with successful business leaders,” said Burgess Institute Executive Director Steve Riccio. “This program will complement our existing academic and co-curricular offerings and help students develop the skills they need to succeed in their careers.”

The program will continue in 2025 with a residency by Susan Miller '81, president and CEO of ATIS (Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions), the organization that develops technical and operational standards for the information and communications technology industry.

The Burgess Institute for the Global Economy launched in the fall semester, funded by the largest academic programming gift in the college’s history from alumnus Mark Burgess '81. The institute creates a formal pathway for students of any major to launch successful careers in business.
