Dickinson prepared me for where I am today by fostering resilience and presenting diverse perspectives. —Maya Harvey '20
Former international business & management and Italian studies major Maya Harvey '20 entered the world of politics as campaign manager for New Hampshire State Senator Chuck Morse as he threw his hat into his state's gubernatorial race.

Tell us a little about your position.

I'm the campaign manager for Senator Chuck Morse, who is running for governor of New Hampshire. My role encompasses a wide range of objectives, including campaign messaging, event scheduling, fundraising efforts, digital marketing, volunteer management, photography and press needs. I also staff the candidate, which involves traveling across the district for local business tours ranging from lumber yards to brewery tours. Working for the state's longest-serving Senate president is especially exciting because it allows me to collaborate closely with other longtime New Hampshire leaders and highlight key legislative achievements accomplished during his tenure.

What was your Dickinson experience like?

Attending Dickinson was a learning experience I’ll never forget. I originally picked the college for its strong international business & management program and equally robust study-abroad opportunities. However, I gained so much more than a degree. I built new relationships on and off campus by participating in club sports, Greek life and working off-campus jobs. I enhanced my linguistic skills by studying abroad for two semesters. I also deepened my academics by getting to know my professors and using their office hours to strengthen subject areas where I felt weaker. I wanted to not just attend college but to be an active part of the campus and greater community.

How did Dickinson help prepare you for where you are today?

Dickinson prepared me for where I am today by fostering resilience and presenting diverse perspectives. The rigorous academic environment challenged me to work hard and persevere through tough coursework. Engaging with a diverse student body through club sports, Greek life and studying abroad expanded my understanding of different viewpoints. If you told me in college I would be working in politics, I would have laughed. But when the opportunity presented itself, I had the courage to do it and the skill set to be successful.
