Couple shares inspiration for why they give back

College was not a foregone conclusion for Dave '73 and Elaine Haag, but scholarships made their educations possible—and ultimately, led to their success in international careers. After many years of faithful giving to Dave’s alma mater, the Haags established a scholarship fund to place a Dickinson education within reach for students who would not be able to attend college without financial assistance.

Donors like this fuel Dickinson's Campaign for Scholarships: Change a Life--Change the World. As the Haags note, scholarship support helps ensure that the brightest and best students may continue to access a Dickinson education, regardless of their families’ finances. That's personally gratifying to these benefactors.

“It is important to me that we are able to help those students that may not have the financial security to attend Dickinson,” says Elaine, noting that she and Dave both appreciate the college that paved the way toward Dave’s career as a supervisory special agent with the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service.

“I believe that every Dickinson alum should give back in some way, shape or form,” Dave adds.
