It’s exciting enough to perform onstage in front of your professor and classmates. Now imagine performing on the day that a Tony-nominated and Grammy-winning star visits your class.

That was the thrilling reality for Roma Cervino ’27, a member of Assistant Professor of Theatre & Dance Keola Simpson’s fall 2023 introductory acting class. She and her classmates had been working on monologues when Christopher Jackson, best known as George Washington in Broadway’s Hamilton, visited their acting class.

"I was a little bit nervous but very excited to get that opportunity to work with him," says Cervino, who ventured outside of her comfort zone in this way during her first semester in college.

Jackson came to Dickinson last month through the college’s Poitras-Gleim Lecture series. The celebrated actor, singer and composer was just one of the nationally and internationally acclaimed experts, artists and thought leaders visiting campus this year to speak publicly and interact with students.

The annual Poitras-Gleim Lecture was endowed by a gift from Ted and Kay Gleim Poitras and provides a forum to explore and promote cross-disciplinary thought and communication.
