Red Devil squash standout and top-ranked Pakistani player calls the experience "a dream come true"

Dickinson squash found itself receiving a little international press recently as Red Devil standout Amna Fayyaz '24 (international business & management) represented her homeland of Pakistan at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the United Kingdom.

“Having the opportunity to represent Pakistan at a platform like this was a dream come true,” says Fayyaz. “These past few weeks have been the best of my squash career, and I am so honored and grateful to have the incredible support behind me in Pakistan and at Dickinson."

The Commonwealth Games are an international competition that takes place every four years among the 54 countries that make up the Commonwealth of Nations. Fayyaz, currently the top-ranked player in Pakistan, took part in both the women's singles and women's doubles events.

In the singles competition, Fayyaz fell to Guyana’s Mary Fung-A-Fat after reaching the Plate Semifinals, but she advanced further in the doubles matches. In that bracket, Fayyaz and her partner defeated the pair from Canada in the semifinals before being defeated in the Plate final, where the Pakistani duo fell to Australia, leaving the venue with a silver medal.

“It has been such an amazing experience,” says Fayyaz, “[and] participating in the games showed me a new passion for squash, which has pushed me to put in my best every time.”
