The 16th Annual Potter Lecture

Polar geologist and Northwestern University Professor Yarrow Axford will discuss climate change in arctic and alpine environments during a livestream lecture from Dickinson. Axford’s talk, “Arctic Meltdown? A Polar Geologist’s Long-Term Perspective on Climate Change,” will take place Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. The public is invited to view the livestream through this link.

Axford, an associate professor in Northwestern’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, studies climate and environmental change in the sediments and fossils of ancient lakes. She is the 16th honoree to deliver Dickinson’s annual Potter Lecture, which presents an opportunity for students to meet and engage established scientists for discussions about their research, career paths, graduate school and career opportunities. The lecture series was established by alumni, colleagues and friends of the Earth Sciences Department in 2004 in honor of Emeritus Professor Noel Potter.
