President Margee Ensign shares thoughts on female leadership

Dickinson College kicked off its first Women's Leadership Summit last night with a fireside chat with President Margee Ensign. Held at the president's house, the event gathered alumnae, parents, faculty and staff to hear Ensign discuss her path, share thoughts on female leadership and outline the skills needed for the next generation.

As Ensign welcomed participants, she said she hoped the summit would become an annual event and reminded attendees that, as Dickinsionians, they had a responsibility to work for positive change. She also spoke about the need for leaders to listen to and trust others, reminding attendees that the Dickinson community is working together to move forward with an innovative vision.

Ensign's fireside chat was the first session of the two-day summit, which brings together Dickinsonains for professional and personal enrichment. Other sessions include:

  • welcome remarks by Annie Engel ’93, president and COO of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services
  • a keynote address by Rachel Hutchisson ’89, VP of corporate citizenship & philanthropy for Blackbaud Inc.
  • a discussion of the challenges of working in the male-dominated sports field by Kirsten Nixa Sabia ’92, VP of integrated communications for the PGA TOUR
  • and discussions on leadership, civic engagement, salary negotiations, conflict management, bias, women in politics, mentorship and entrepreneurship.
