Kyu Ri Hong '19, TAGPAY

Major:

International business & management.

Internship title:

Sales and marketing intern.

What I do, day to day:

Every day at work is a little different. Usually, I work at the office, which is located in Holloway, London. However, this week, I attended an innovations pitch at the British Red Cross. The TAGPAY team gave a presentation on how its products and services could be implemented in volunteer work. I took pictures and videos of the event, and at the end, I also had the opportunity to meet and network with other speakers and organizers. In addition, Juventus Academy just launched in Enfield, London, this summer, and as partner, TAGPAY operated the camps for two weeks. I helped manage and run the camps, such as assisting with the opening and closing ceremonies. I also managed the Juventus Academy London social media apps by posting pictures and videos of the event. Not only do I get to gain more hands-on work experience, but I also get to explore and get to know the city by having different work locations once in a while.

Other internships:

During my year abroad in Bremen, Germany, I interned for the International Heiner Müller Society (IHMS), which is a non-profit literary society based in Berlin. I got this internship through Dr. Janine Ludwig, who is the chairwoman of IHMS as well as the academic director of the Dickinson in Bremen program. During the internship, I was assigned tasks such as transcribing interviews that were conducted in German and proofreading and editing bibliographies for soon-to-be-published books. This opportunity helped me improve my German. I hope to do another internship during the winter so that I can apply what I've learned from my current internship and to build some more experience before applying for a job in the spring.

Most valuable part of this experience:

TAGPAY is a very small startup, and I really like this about the company because I have been able to build and maintain close relationships with the director, managers and other interns. Everyone is always involved and my managers make sure that I am always on task and making the best out of my internship experience. Also, TAGPAY is partnered with other amazing companies such as Turnstyles FA and Juventus Academy, which gave me the opportunity to meet their staff and coaches. Broadening my network of personal connections has been the most valuable part of this internship opportunity for me.

Advice for students considering internships:

Internships are the best ways to gain experience and to apply what you've learned in the classroom. Be confident, and do not be afraid to ask questions and make mistakes during your internship experience!

How this internship has helped me:

This internship experience has given me a better understanding of what I want to do, what I am both good and bad at and what I am passionate about.

Post-Dickinson plans:

I plan on pursuing a job and a master's degree in sports marketing.
