Dickinson will invite students back for the spring. Campus buildings are closed and face coverings are required on campus.
Purpose of Award
The Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Award promotes mutual cultural understanding between representatives of the United States and the host country. Bisbjerg will be teaching English in Laos.
How has Dickinson prepared you for your future?
My interdisciplinary education has ensured that I am capable of applying my knowledge in diverse circumstances. Dickinson has cultivated self-confidence in my critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities; I feel I can always tackle a challenge, even when the solution is not immediately obvious to me.
During the summer of 2016, I was a project coordinator intern at the Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
What are you most anticipating about your future?
I'm most looking forward to exploring a new country in a region I have always loved. Having grown up in Southeast Asia, I'm excited to rediscover familiar flavors and stunning nature. It should be a fantastic year in what my dad has called “one of the friendliest countries on Earth.”
What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?
During my year abroad in Toulouse, I befriended a bartender at our favorite bar, and he once let me behind the counter to mix my own drink. It tasted quite bad, so I plan to continue pursuing a career in international development, but it was memorable nonetheless.
