Marcus Witherspoon was interested in learning about how businesses all around the world invent and reinvent themselves, but he also had a variety of other interests, and he wanted to play football competitively. At Dickinson, he found a way to do all of this and more.
Clubs and organizations:
Big Brothers Big Sisters, football team and Devil’s Advocates.
A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah.
On choosing a major:
I was very interested in business, in terms of understanding how organizations work and why they make decisions that set them apart from other firms. I thought taking this information and applying it to an international setting would be awesome.
On choosing Dickinson:
Dickinson allows me to take ownership of my education and learn what I want to learn, while also allowing me to play football at a competitive level. Dickinson also fosters creativity and lets students pursue their passions easily.
Favorite place on campus:
Durden Athletic Training Center.
Favorite Dining Hall food:
Too many to choose from.
As I kid, I wanted to be …
… an NFL or NBA player.
If I could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, it would be …
If I could have dinner with anyone living, it would be Shaquille O’Neal. If I could have dinner with anyone dead, it would Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
Describe Dickinson in one sentence:
Dickinson is a place where I can comfortably express myself, learn about things that interest me and take advantage of great athletics facilities.
Most important thing I’ve learned so far:
Just be yourself. This school offers so many great resources that it doesn’t matter what your interest is—Dickinson has something to cater to everyone. The campus also is very diverse, with people doing so many different things. You will meet so many great people along the way.
