Make History Again

Day of Giving

Second Day of Giving seeks historic 2,020 gifts in 24 hours

Dickinson will launch its second Day of Giving, Tuesday, April 19, seeking 2,020 gifts to the Dickinson Fund in a single day. The effort aims to top last year's record-breaking Day of Giving, which collected 2,017 gifts totaling $449,945 in 24 hours.

One Mission: 24 Hours. 2,020 Dickinsonians

The historic goal of 2,020 gifts highlights the impact that giving to the college has on the future by referencing the next class of Dickinsonians, the class of 2020, who will enter the college this fall. To celebrate the college's commitment to the future, the Day of Giving is asking current Dickinsonians to make a gift not only to impact the college today but also to leave a legacy for the class of 2020 and beyond.

In addition to making a gift, you can support the effort by spreading the word through social media. To that end, the Office of College Advancement has posted a Day of Giving social media toolkit with graphics you can download and post to show your support for the college.

To help build excitement around the day, the advancement office will set up a series of Day of Giving events and displays on campus Monday through Wednesday:

Rise to the Challenge(s)

In addition to topping last year’s effort, this year’s Day of Giving has the potential to unlock more than $400,000 in additional gifts to the Dickinson Fund through a series of challenges for multiple segments of the Dickinson community:

  • Reunion Alumni Challenge – Unlock $100,000 for every 200 reunion donors (alumni who graduated in years ending in 1 or 6) up to 600 donors and $300,000—200 reunion donors unlocks $100,000; 400 reunion donors unlocks a total of $200,000; and 600 reunion donors unlocks a total of $300,000 – full-day challenge
  • First-time Alumni Donor Challenge – Unlock $45,000, thanks to Marjorie Speers '78, if we reach 100 gifts from first-time alumni donors – full-day challenge
  • Young Alumni Challenge – Unlock $50,000, thanks to Eva and Marc Stern ’65, if we reach 500 gifts from graduates of the last 10 years (2006-15) – full-day challenge
  • Student Challenge – Unlock $8,000, thanks to members of the Alumni Council, if we reach 400 gifts from students – full-day challenge
  • Rush Hour Challenge – Unlock $10,000, thanks to Kevin Holleran ’73, if we reach 500 gifts between 7 and 9 a.m. EST
  • Power Lunch Challenge – Unlock $30,000, thanks to Jennifer Ward Reynolds ’77, if we reach 200 donors between noon and 2 p.m. EST

Note: A single gift could count toward multiple challenges. For example, if a member of the class of 2006 makes a gift at 7 a.m., the gift will count toward three challenges: Rush Hour, Reunion Alumni and Young Alumni.
