Can any student check out tablets (iPad or Android) at the Media Center?

No, iPads are not available for general checkout at the Media Center.

I am using a Dickinson tablet. Can I put my own music and movies on the device?

Yes. Again, remember that you’ll be turning this tablet in at the end of the semester and that it will be wiped clean and given to another student. You should plan on storing all your personal files on a machine or system that belongs to you.

Yes. Just remember that you’ll be turning this tablet in at the end of the semester. The tablet will be wiped clean and given to another student. You should plan on storing all your personal files on a machine or system that belongs to you. Apps will only run on an the platform of device you borrowed (iPad/Android), so keep that in mind when considering to buy personal apps for this device.

I am using a Dickinson tablet. How do I get technical support?

You can e-mail mediacenter@dickinson.edu or go to the Media Center in Bosler Hall.

I am using a Dickinson tablet. What happens if I lose it?

You are responsible for the tablet. If you lose it, your account will be billed the full replacement cost. Failure to pay the replacement fee will result in your grades being withheld. You also won’t have the necessary technology to complete assignments in your course.

I am using a Dickinson tablet that has stopped working. What should I do?

Take the malfunctioning tablet to the Media Center as soon as possible. They will work on a solution with you.

I am using a Dickinson tablet. Where is the best place for me to get wireless access on campus?

Most residential halls, classroom spaces, the library and student areas have good wireless access. Some local restaurants and other businesses may have additional wireless options.

I am using a Dickinson tablet. What happens if I forget to take my tablet to class?

You may not be able to complete class assignments. Your tablet is just like a book – you should always remember to take it to class. Each professor will have different ways of dealing with this issue. It’s best to check with your professor.

I am using a Dickinson tablet. The screen of my tablet is looking dirty. How do I clean it?

NEVER clean your screen with any cleaner product. Instead, use a soft slighlty damp cloth and gently wipe the screen.

I am using a Dickinson tablet. Can I hook an external keyboard up to the tablet?

Yes. While Dickinson does not provide an external keyboard, they can be checked out at the Media Center for short term use. Or they are sold at Apple.comor Amazon.com

I am using a Dickinson tablet. Where and when do I turn in my equipment at the end of the semester?

Students may turn in their tablet at the Media Center the day of the Final.

I am using a Dickinson tablet. Since I’m not using it this weekend, is it okay for me to loan it to someone else?

No. You should never loan your tablet to anyone. You are responsible for the equipment. Furthermore, your email and social networking information is all readily available on the tablet.

I am using a Dickinson iPad. I have a PC and have never used a Mac before. Is this going to work for me?

iPads will work with any machine (PC or Mac) that has the free iTunes application installed.

I am using a Dickinson tablet. If I drop the courses, do I get to keep the tablet?

No, you must return your tablet immediately to the Media Center after you drop the course.

Can I purchase my own iPad and get a Dickinson discount?

Apple occasionally offers an academic discount on iPads. Contact Apple for complete details.

What if I drop my tablet?

Bring your tablet to the Media Center and let us take a look. It may be all right, or it may need a repair. Let the professionals at the Media Center help you decide.

Do I need to have my own computer to use my tablet?

You don’t have to have your own computer to use the tablet

I am an early adopter, and I already own my own tablet. Can I use my own tablet?

Yes. If you already have your own tablet you may use it if it is the same device the rest of your class has borrowed. Depending on the structure of your class you may be able to use a different type of device, check with your professor and the Media Center to see what apps will be required.

If my tablet to be needs repaired, will I get a replacement?

Maybe – it depends on the nature of the repair, how it was damaged and other factors. This is decided on a case-by-case basis in the Media Center.

If I get a replacement tablet will my Apps and personal files be transferred to the new tablet?

It will be your responsibility to install all apps and backup and transfer your personal content.

Can I take my tablet to an outside vendor (Apple, Bestbuy) for support, repairs, or help installing applications?

No. Dickinson students should get assistance and support at the Media Center.

What if my tablet is stolen?

You should get a police report within 48 hours of the crime and bring an official copy of the police report to the Media Center. You are still responsible for the replacement cost of the equipment.
