Pathways: Taking Ethical Steps to Long-Term Service

About

Pathways: Taking Steps to Ethical Long-Term Service is a developing initiative at the CCLA focused on cultivating long-term sustainable partnerships between campus groups and community organizations in Carlisle. Long-term service builds deeper relationships, greater understanding, and a stronger sense of shared purpose. Pathways is designed for student groups, departments, centers, or athletic teams seeking meaningful involvement in the Carlisle community through partnerships that align with their passions and interests with the needs of local community organizations. Many groups on campus are eager to engage but unsure where to begin, and this program meets students where they are, connects them with community partners, and supports them as they begin building lasting, reciprocal relationships. The goal of this program is to help students take steps into community engagement while laying the foundation for ethical, sustained involvement.

For Our Students

  • The CCLA will provide an orientation to help students orient themselves to the Carlisle community and explore best practices in ethical service, including accountability and commitment.
  • We foster a strong peer community grounded in mutual support and reflection.
  • Each campus group identified a student liaison to manage this initiative and take lead in organizing and communicating between student groups and community partners.
  • If you are a student group interested in this program, fill out this form: Community Engagement Interest Form – Fill out form

For Our Partners

  • Identify and supervise appropriate volunteer opportunities.
  • Host a site-specific orientation: share information about your organization, including your mission, what makes you unique, and the community or demographic you serve.
  • Establish expectations and communication guidelines with students and liaison directly: What is required of the students and what support you need from them?
  • If you are a community partner interested in this program, fill out this from: Community Partner Pathways Form - Request for Student Volunteers – Fill out form

Who has been participating?

  • SPY (Supportive Partnerships for Youth) was paired with Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) to provide weekly tutors for elementary students. ALD is a group interested in hands-on service, mentoring, and youth development.
  • CALC (Carlisle Arts and Learning Center) was matched with Arts Collective, aligning with CALC’s need for creative volunteers to support elementary and middle school students with a strong interest in creative art.
  • We are currently working on partnering athletic teams with various community partners.
