How many Jewish students attend Dickinson?
About 8-10% of the student body identifies as Jewish.
Is there kosher dining on campus?
We have a kosher/vegan entree line, called the KOVE, in our main dining hall. It is under the supervision of Rabbi Marley Weiner, Executive Director of the Asbell Center for Jewish Life.
Are there local synagogues?
Yes. Congregation Beth Tikvah is located in Carlisle and uses the Asbell Center. There are also a number of synagogues in Harrisburg, only 30 minutes away.
Are there resources for Jewish first-years?
Yes! The Asbell Center for Jewish Life offers a pre-orientation program which starts the Sunday before Orientation, as well as an Orientation Shabbat the Friday during first-year orientation. First year students interested in immersing into Jewish Learning with the Asbell Center can sign up for our Jewish Learning Fellowship which brings first-years and sophomores together to talk about what it means to bring your Jewish identity to college. And all Jewish students are welcome to join FYAT, Hillel’s First Year Ambassador Team, which offers plenty of opportunities to schmooze with Hillel leaders and other first years.
Is there Greek life on campus? Are there Jewish Greek organizations?
Founded in 2024, Dickinson hosts a chapter of AEPi, the world's Jewish college fraternity.
