IT TAKES EVERYONE

As we become more digitally connected, it is increasingly important that each and every one of us do our part to make sure that our online lives are kept safe and secure.

Faculty and staff members of Dickinson work with, store, and manage information that is valuable to the college.  It is everyone’s responsibility to be knowledgeable about ways to protect that information as well as your own personal information.

The information found on this site is provided as a resource for you.  We want to help you make sure that your data is safe and secure!

WHY DO WE NEED TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT INFORMATION SECURITY?

An information security program is designed to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of institutional information that is created, received, maintained, or transmitted.

We need information security…

  • to protect information. A data breach can have many consequences for the College, including loss of systems and data, lost productivity, fines, lawsuits, and damage to its reputation.
  • to meet legal obligations.  FERPA, HIIPA, PCI-DSS, as well as state breach notification laws require certain protections for sensitive information.
  • to protect your privacy.  Protecting your computer keeps your data secure and helps protect the privacy of the Dickinson community of users.
