Buzz Jones Big Band to Perform at Dickinson College Ice Cream Social

The 16-member jazz orchestra will perform on the campus of Dickinson College as part of the Chautauqua Summer Concert Series. The event takes place on Drayer Porch and is free and open to the public.

The Buzz Jones Big Band, a 16-member jazz orchestra that is recognized as one of the best in its genre in the Mid-Atlantic States, will perform on Wednesday August 7 from 6:30-8:00 pm on the campus of Dickinson College as part of the Chautauqua Summer Concert Series. The ever-popular Cathy Chemi is the featured vocalist. The band is dedicated to performing masterpieces of the Great American Songbook, swing standards of Basie & Ellington, and blues of all genres. The BJBB has opened for Tony Bennett, Bob Newhart, and The Temptations and has performed with legendary guitarist/vocalist John Pizzarelli.

Buzz Jones is professor of music emeritus at Gettysburg College’s Sunderman Conservatory of Music. He directed the college jazz ensemble from 1989-2015 leading the group on six summer tours of Europe with appearances at the Montreux (Switzerland), North Sea (Holland), Nice (France), Istanbul (Turkey), Umbria (Italy), and Vienné (France) Jazz Festivals.

The event takes place on Drayer Porch at 60 W. Louther St. near the intersection of College and High Streets and is free and open to the public. Ice cream will be provided for all! Rain location is the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium, 360 W. Louther Street. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
