Some Arab Truth, An Evening of Comedy and Cultural Awareness with Amer Zahr

April 6, 2026

In celebration of Arab American Heritage Month, join the Program in Middle East Studies in welcoming Amer Zahr to campus for this evening of comedy and cultural awareness!

Amer Zahr is a Palestinian Arab American comedian, speaker, writer, academic, and adjunct professor of law. He draws on his experiences growing up as a child of Palestinian refugees, performing and lecturing on topics like politics, society, culture, identity, Palestine, Islam, and more.  As a comedian, he has headlined packed houses at such venues as Carnegie Hall and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (as it was then-known), and has produced and headlined several comedy tours of his own:  1001 Laughs, Where Are You From?,  We’re Not White! and In 1948.

Amer holds an MA in Middle Eastern and North Africa Studies and a Juris Doctorate, both from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. In addition to performing comedy, he writes and speaks widely on political and social affairs, and has appeared often on radio and television, including Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, and more.

A book signing of Amer's book Being Palestinian Makes Me Smile will follow the show.  A limited number of copies of the book will be available for sale at the event for $20 (cash sales only).

Free and open to the public
