The intention of Friendship Dinners is to bring people in the community together to break bread, get to know one another, and build relationships.
CCLA is proud to be providing transportation to this Friendship Dinner with our friends in Moving Circles! This event is open to members of the broader Carlisle community and members of the Dickinson community. We ask that community members bring a potluck dish to share; students do not need to bring additional food.
Because this location is not within walking distance, we will be providing transportation to The Meeting House. Reserve your spot in the van by using the RSVP function - meet in the Kaufman Parking Lot at 5:45. The event ends at 8:30; we expect to be back to campus by 8:45.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. talked about the root of mistrust and fear – the fact that people fear one another – and he pointed out that people fear one another because we don’t know one another. In his words:
“They fear each other because they don’t know each other, and they don’t know each other because they don’t communicate with each other, and they don’t communicate with each other because they are separated from each other.”
We know that historically Carlisle developed with very segregated neighborhoods – and that in Central Pennsylvania, it is quite possible for people to grow up in places where folks are culturally isolated and separate from one another.
Yet, there’s a great desire to widen our circles, to have more diverse friends, and to build what Dr. King called “Beloved Community.” There are so many people and organizations desiring greater connection and opportunities to know people who are different from ourselves.
Moving Circles sincerely hopes you all see this as that opportunity – that you’ll keep coming – and that you’ll invite wider and wider circles of people to join us.
