The Women of Color Summit is a bold celebration of the brilliance, resilience, and leadership of women of color who have chosen to embark on the journey of becoming Dickinsonians.
We will open the Summit in community with a celebratory reception centering storytelling, leadership, and the power of gathering across generations. Samira Sakaran will share an official proclamation on behalf of Governor Shapiro and her personal story of leadership. Commissioners Nancy Chavez and Christine Titih of the Governor's Advisory Commission on Women will also share the ways in which they have defied definitions as leaders.
Catering will be provided by the PA Immigrant and Refugee Women's Network (PAIRWN), highlighting cuisine inspired by ancestral home and collective care. Farzana Safiullah, Executive Director of PAIRWN, will speak about a mission that honors and emowers immigrant and refugee women in the Harrisburg community.
This gathering intentionally centers women, gender-expansive, and non-binary persons of color. Consistent with our educational mission, all academic and co-curricular programs sponsored by Dickinson College are open to all members of our community.
The Women of Color Summit is a bold celebration of the brilliance, resilience, and leadership of women of color who have chosen to embark on the journey of becoming Dickinsonians. More than a gathering, the Summit is a space to connect, learn, and be affirmed in the fullness of who you are.
Our 2026 theme, Authenticity: Defying Definitions, calls us to reject narrow narratives and reclaim the power of self-definition. Together, we will create intentional spaces where women of color can share their stories on their own terms, challenge limiting expectations, and honor the richness and complexity of their identities.
