Lecture - Take Two: Revisiting Multiculturalism in Art Museums

August 12, 2024

Dr. Joni Boyd Acuff, Professor of Art Education at The Ohio State University, speaks on what multiculturalism in the museum means today and what it will mean for the future.

Take Two: Revisiting Multiculturalism in Art Museums

Acuff & Evans’ text Multiculturalism in Art Museums Today was first published in 2014. In the decade since, the world has experienced many global phenomena that have impacted all institutions from healthcare to education. From a global pandemic (COVID-19), climate change threats, a racial reckoning after the murder of George Floyd, an economic recession and so much more, museums have been required to respond to major events that have inevitably influenced how they engage visitors and learners. This talk reflects on the ways such events have shifted what multiculturalism in the museum means today and what it will mean for the future.
