How has the western genre been appropriated and recycled by Italian directors and producers, particularly in the sixties and seventies? Starting from "A Fistful of Dollars" (dir. S. Leone, 1964), we will explore the fad of the so-called spaghetti westerns by looking at three main aspects: production practices; social context; and stardom. In its Italian version, the American western lost its mystical aura but its anti-hero (poncho, cigar and all) triggered a whole new style in adventures!
