Working at a Big 4: An alum’s perspective on accounting and consulting

Mr. Steven L. Skalak ’77, P’07, a CPA and retired Advisory Services partner in Forensics at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), will speak with students about his career path and share advice about approaching entry level opportunities and working for a large accounting and consulting firm in the U.S. and abroad.

About Steven L. Skalak ’77, P’07
Steve Skalak is a 1977 graduate of Dickinson, where he double-majored in history and economics and, more important, met his wife, Diane, also class of '77. After essentially serving an extended internship in the professional development program office of then-Big-8 accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand, now half of today’s international accounting, tax and consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Steve attended Columbia University Graduate School of Business, where he acquired an MBA and sufficient credits to meet the educational requirements for CPAs in New York state. Steve was a partner in the N.Y. office of PwC, which now has over 200,000 employees globally. He moved from traditional auditing into transaction-based services like acquisitions, valuation, bankruptcy and investigation and ultimately served as a forensic accounting team partner and leader for in both U.S. and international roles for over 20 years. He and Diane lived in Beijing for 2.5 years, from 2010 to 2012. Steve has been fortunate to work with clients in many European countries, as well as Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Korea, China and India. He now travels for pleasure and continues to enjoy his regular tennis games.
