Alumni, parents dive in to support locker-room project

Dickinson parents and alumni are joining forces in support of Red Devil swimmers. And the results are going … well, swimmingly!

They’re getting involved in a new renovation project that provides dedicated spaces for the men’s and women’s swim teams. More than a place to store their gear, the new swimming locker rooms will include gathering spaces for students to prepare to compete, celebrate accomplishments and strengthen the friendships that define the Red Devil experience.

Currently, Dickinson swimming student athletes share a locker room with all other members of the college community who wish to use Dickinson’s pool. The forthcoming Kline Center swimming locker room renovation will bring Dickinson student athletes out of a general locker room area and into places each team can call home—places that are tailored to their needs, because they were created with them in mind.

The college has provided funding for the majority of the renovation, and gifts from alumni, parents and friends of the college will complete it.

Some Dickinson alumni, parents and friends of the college are helping out by sponsoring a swimming-team locker, which may be personalized with an inscription. Inscriptions can recognize a current or former student athlete or coach, celebrate a family’s connection to Red Devil athletics programs, commemorate a specific class year or team or simply express pride in the swimming programs. The sponsorships are available through a $5,000 gift.

These locker sponsorships create a visible and lasting legacy and help signal the generations of support that power students’ successes in the pool and beyond. But they are not the only way to help Dickinson athletics reach its goal. Gifts of any size, allocated toward this project, are also welcome and appreciated, and they, too, contribute meaningfully to the cause.

“We’re so grateful to Dickinson for launching and supporting this project and to the Dickinson parents and alumni who are supporting it,” Director of Athletics Celine Cunningham says. “The new swimming locker rooms will significantly enhance our swimmers' daily experiences and ensure that they have the resources they need to thrive in and out of the pool.”

Anyone interested in supporting the locker room renovation project can make a gift online or learn more on the project’s campaign page.
