Financial Sleuthing

Michael Allen ’17, Charles Schwab

Major:

Political science.

Internship title:

Financial crimes investigator.

How I got this internship:

I applied to a few programs at Schwab; this one was the most interesting to me.

What I do, day to day:

Basically, if suspicious activity is detected in a Schwab checking or brokerage account, I investigate the cause of the alert and, if necessary, I file a report to law enforcement.

Previous internships:

I was an intern last summer with Primo Water.

Most valuable part of this experience:

The exposure. I am being exposed to another side of finance that I just didn't know existed. It's incredibly interesting and beneficial.

Advice for students considering internships:

Find a company that matches your core values and beliefs, not the other way around.

How this internship has helped me:

It's further developed my ability to reach deadlines, something that every Dickinsonian is familiar with.

Post-Dickinson plans:

Get rich, or die trying.
