by Eric Fennel '92, Alumni Council President
Our time at Dickinson afforded us incredible opportunities, cherished memories and lifelong friendships. Our experiences also created powerful associations that connect us with other Dickinsonians across classes and generations. Today, there are more than 35 organized alumni networks that celebrate these shared experiences and create opportunities for alumni to stay engaged with Dickinson, as well as to support each other personally and professionally.
One of the newest is the Latinx Alumni Network, led by President Leslie Alas ’22. The Latinx Alumni Network is grounded in the belief that building connections, fostering community and addressing challenges can make a lasting impact. The network is committed to creating pathways to leadership, providing mentorship and offering socioemotional support.
Recently, the network held a gathering in Los Angeles, where 20 alumni came together to reconnect and share their experiences. This event highlighted the strength of the network and the shared commitment to mutual support and advancement. Looking ahead, the Latinx Alumni Network will host a special event on Dickinson’s campus during Homecoming & Family Weekend, as well as a networking event in the New York City area on Jan. 16, 2025.
The Latinx Alumni Network—like the African American Alumni Association (led by Kali Avans ’11) and the LGBTQ+ Alumni Network—embrace the same core principle. They are committed to the idea that, by sharing their experiences and expertise with each other and staying actively engaged with the college, they can not only lift up their fellow alumni but help Dickinson continue to deliver a world-class experience and education for the generations that follow us.
We are so grateful for our network leaders like Leslie, Kali and all of the alumni who have created events for the LGBTQ+ Network. We encourage all alumni to embrace their shared connections with other Dickinsonians and participate in an organized alumni network. Thank you again for all you do to support the Dickinson community and move Dickinson College forward.
