Biology Major takes on Sea Turtle Internship at Loggerhead Marine Center in Juno Beach, Florida

Izzy Desjardins '25 (biology) is diving deep into sea turtle conservation at the Loggerhead Marine Center in Juno Beach, Florida. The biology major is on a mission to tackle the issue of plastic pollution and its impact on marine life.

In her role as a conservation intern, Desjardins is collecting crucial data on sea turtle health and marine debris—and working directly with injured turtles like Nibbles, a green sea turtle affected by boat strikes and plastic ingestion.

“I would love to be able to share the work I’m doing here with other people who may not know as much about conservation,” says Desjardins, whose internship experience is supported through Dickinson's Jeffrey Niemitz Endowed Student Research and Internship Fund. “And just drive home the fact that change needs to happen.”
