More than 3,500 Dickinsonians + 24 Hours = 1 Bright Future

Dickinsonians around the world came together yesterday to shatter the Day of Giving goal of 3,000 gifts in 24 hours with more than 3,500 gifts, totaling over $1.4 million. Those gifts support every aspect of the student experience—from making Dickinson possible through scholarships and financial aid to helping students prepare to be tomorrow's leaders through academic programming, athletics, study abroad and more.

Leading the charge were numerous challenge donors who made more than $300,000 in challenge gifts to inspire other donors to join in this historic effort:

  • Carolyn Byron P’93 and the Byron Family, in memory of Leo Byron ’58
  • Charlie ’65 and Trudy Craig P’89
  • Amy Nauiokas ’94
  • Jon ’06 and Nicole Hays ’07
  • The Pugs Foundation, started in memory of Gary "Pugs" Knechtel ’80
  • Kevin Holleran ’73
  • Craig ’77 and Lorrie Weeks
  • Dee Dee Kropf Scarborough ’87
  • Dr. Rolf Ackermann ’92
  • Steve Smith ’92

Dickinson thanks all of these leadership donors for their generous and inspirational support. Full details on each of the challenges are available on the Day of Giving "Challenges" page. Additionally, the college thanks alumni, students, parents and coaches who advocated for Dickinson and encouraged fellow Dickinsonians to join them in making a gift. And, of course, Dickinson thanks every donor who joined in yesterday to show that more than 3,500 Dickinsonians + 24 hours = 1 bright future.

Change a Life—Change the World

The Campaign for Scholarships at Dickinson
Change a Life—Change the WorldMany of the day's gifts also supported Dickinson's Campaign for Scholarships: Change a Life—Change the World, which seeks to provide a scholarship for every student who needs one. More than 850 Day of Giving donors designated their gifts toward the scholarship challenge or other specific scholarship funds during the day. In addition to helping the college reach its day of giving goals, those gifts contributed to the largest scholarship and financial-aid fundraising campaign in the college's history, helping Dickinson to meet the full demonstrated financial need of every student it admits.
