ROTC

A Blue Mountain Battalion exercise at Letterkenny Army Depot found Dickinson College ROTC students deep in the woods of Upper Strasburg, Pennsylvania. And while field training was the name of the game for the 126 Army personnel on hand, the lessons learned go far beyond the battlefield.
“Everyone has to be on the same page, and it has to happen pretty quick,” says John Searight ’20 (law & policy), who was on his second field exercise. Skills cadets worked on in the field, like preparation and adaptation, will transition anywhere in life. But cadets also find that Dickinson has prepared them for a career in military leadership, which some might find unexpected.
“My liberal-arts education is really applied here,” says Searight, “because it helps me become a better critical thinker and problem solver, and that really applies well to being a leader in the army.”
