How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

Dickinson has exposed me to a variety of rigorous and diverse courses that have taught me to be a more engaged learner. I have learned to think critically and analyze complex problems, build strong arguments and work alongside a diverse group of peers and professors. Through coursework, internships, extracurriculars and my abroad experience, I have been granted opportunities to gain real world experience and have been exposed to the material first hand. These opportunities have also challenged me to think about viewing the world through both a global perspective and a sustainable mindset. The skills that I have learned at Dickinson I anticipate using in both future careers and as an engaged citizen of the world.

What are you most anticipating about your career or postgraduate pursuits?

I am thrilled to be starting my career not only in an area that has always been of interest to me but in a hospital that is leading in its field. I am excited to be able to apply all of the skills that I have learned throughout my time at Dickinson to a position where I can both learn and grow as a young professional. I cannot wait to see where my path takes me after that!

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

One of the highlights of my time at Dickinson has been working with the Office of Admissions as a tour guide. By giving weekly tours to prospective students and their families, I have been able to share my experience at Dickinson. By telling the story of our school and how I made it my own, I am frequently reminded about all of the opportunities that Dickinson has provided me and what makes Dickinson truly unique. Another highlight of my Dickinson experience was studying abroad in Brisbane, Australia, for almost five months. I was able to be fully immersed into the culture by living with 225 Australians and experiencing an entirely new education system. I was also able to do a significant amount of traveling, which allowed me to be independent and experience new traditions, cultures and ways of living.

Also, to further extend Nasdaq's brand name throughout the world, I worked with the marketing team to post social media content on Nasdaq's pages such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

I am an adult student who has worked full-time while pursuing my degree. The benefit of receiving my degree has enabled me to advance my critical thinking skills, understand how to perform research and improve my writing skills. These skills have not only enabled me to continue to grow professionally but have allowed me to see that personal growth is a continuum that never ends as long as we are willing to engage in subject matter that is outside of our current knowledge. I feel that I am prepared to take on jobs within many fields outside of my current position because of the confidence that gaining these skills has instilled within me.

What are you most anticipating about your career or postgraduate pursuits?

The freedom that having a bachelor's degree allows you when you are looking to transition between careers.

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

Some of my defining moments are really getting to know students better through the classes required for my major. Foundations, 301 and 401. Also, the class that I took on Russian history earlier in my college career. I was scared to death to write, and Professor Karl Qualls spent more than the usual amount of time with me to work on improving my research skills. He also suggested narrowing my focus to improve the quality of my research. He enabled me to break through a mental barrier to writing research papers that I just couldn't achieve on my own in my previous classes.

Internship Experience

I analyzed the current campus policy manual for Dickinson College to incorporate diversity & inclusivity throughout our policies to align with current best practices. I prioritized institutional goals and made suggestions for improving any policies that needed to be strengthened or created. I submitted a comprehensive recommendation and created a spreadsheet that tracked all necessary revisions to individual policies, not just the ones that needed to be revised to meet our diversity & inclusivity initiatives.
