Sarah Benamati

Major: theatre arts, music
Hometown: Salisbury, Maryland
Employer: Carlisle Theatre
Job title: director

Job Responsibilities

Direct the opening musical for the 2018 summer season of Carlisle Theatre in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Coordinate schedules of cast and crew.

How has Dickinson prepared you for your future?

It provided me opportunities to expand my professional development while still working in an undergraduate setting.

Internship Experience

I worked for two years with Professor of Theatre Karen Kirkham at Pendragon Theatre as the assistant to the executive artistic director in Saranac Lake, New York. There I performed, worked in the costume and scene shop, assisted the stage managers on various productions, designed and hosted befits for the theatre, worked in company management, as well as designed and built puppets for the camp's production of James and the Giant Peach.

What are you most anticipating about your future?

I am most excited to begin working on my career as a professional performer. It will be nice to have more availability in my schedule to go out on more auditions than I could while attending Dickinson.

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

There were many. Some included having my major declaration meetings with my respective advisors, performing on the Dickinson College Farm, interning at a professional theatre company and being able to make my professional debut. Also, my experience was defined by the wonderful colleagues and friends I have made along my journey.

Sarah Blocher

Major: theatre arts
Hometown: Adamstown, Maryland
Employer: Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival
Job title: scenic carpenter

Job Responsibilities

Responsible for the construction, installation and strike of all scenic elements for the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival's 2018 season (summer contract) at Desales University, Allentown, Pennsylvania.

How has Dickinson prepared you for your future?

My professors in the Department of Theatre and Dance always encouraged me to keep making art and keep working hard. Dedication is a very important skill in a professional theatrical setting. They have continued to feed my love of theatre.

Internship Experience

I participated in a Dana Grant internship with [Assistant] Professor Kent Barrett the summers of 2016 and 2017 assisting him at two regional theatre companies: Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre in Grand Lake Colorado and Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake, New York. During this time, I was his assistant production manager, assistant scenic designer and, in the case of Pendragon, a scenic carpenter. These internships have given me great content for my resume and amazing experience in my field.
