The Fine Art of Networking

Picture of Networking Day

With the 2012 job market still challenging, an event such as Networking Day places Dickinson's "useful education" in a new and especially relevant context.

The daylong gathering brought together over 170 juniors and seniors and alumni volunteers for several sessions aimed at guiding students through the troubled waters of today's job market. The event also let students discuss career-related topics while networking with more than 80 alumni participants from various fields.

Networking Day is a chance to practice interview skills and and sit in on mock interviews while attending panel discussions such as "Marketing Your Liberal Arts Experience," "Careers in Sustainability," and others related to careers in the nonprofit arena, the arts, sports and finance.

Soni Dimond—a nationally known communications coach and leadership consultant—spent an hour in the afternoon with students presenting her "Life's a Pitch" program, based on her series of motivational books. For the alumni panelists, it's a great opportunity to reach back to Dickinson and extend a hand to students about to embark on life after graduation.

Networking Day, an annual event, was sponsored by the Career Center, the Office of Alumni & Parent Engagement and the Alumni Council.
