Jillian Marini '17, Hologic, Inc.

Major:

International business & management.

Internship title:

Integrated brand marketing intern.

How I got this internship:

I was asked to return after having interned for this company last summer.

What I do, day to day:

I perform creative work for various products and national campaigns, keep our social media accounts current with the latest information we want our customers to know and analyze our team’s budget to learn how we can use our money most effectively on the best kinds of marketing materials.

Previous internships:

I interned at this same company last summer. I was also an intern for Pepsi Bottling Company in New York.

Most valuable part of this experience:

The most valuable thing for me has been seeing that the hard work that I do can make a difference in the lives of real people. As part of my job, I work on creating marketing materials that are centered on women's health, specifically breast health and breast cancer. After doing research and collaborating with my team members, we put together pieces that our sales team takes to our customers and patients. We hear so many stories of women whose lives have been saved because of our technology, and when you hear those stories on how impactful your work was on a woman and her family, it makes all the hard work and long hours worth it.

Advice for students considering internships:

I think internships are extremely important, because they give you the opportunity to apply what you have been learning in the classroom to the real world. Internships also look great on resumes, and they give you a wonderful opportunity to network with people and make connections that will come in handy when searching for a job after graduation.

How this internship has helped me:

This internship has helped me in many ways. I believe that I have found what I want to do postgraduation. Now that I know, I can lay out what my next steps will be as I head into my senior year.

Post-Dickinson plans:

My dream is to have a job right after graduation that gives me the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of other people.
