Perry Martinez

Perry M. Martinez is from the Pueblo de San Ildefonso, New Mexico, and is a lifelong resident. Mr. Martinez is currently a tribal council representative and has previously served in tribal leadership as a three-term Pueblo governor. He is the program director of the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council, Inc. Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) and has been with the program for 40 years. Currently, Mr. Martinez serves as the president of the Southwest Food for Tribes Southwest Region, composed of FDPIR programs in Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah. Formerly, he was the president of the National Association of Food Distribution Programs on Indian Reservations, comprising 130 Programs throughout the United States that provided services to 250 Pueblos, Nations and Tribes. Mr. Martinez was appointed to several State of New Mexico commissions including the New Mexico State Tribal Infrastructure Board as the Pueblo Representative by New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and the Governor’s Gasoline Tax Working Group by New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson. Other professional positions include the Los Alamos National Laboratory Small Business Procurement Task Force, Co-Chairman of the New Mexico Native American Petroleum Coalition, and Charmian of the 19 Pueblos District Oversight Commission as the Northern Pueblo Representative. In addition, Mr. Martinez was appointed by the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Board of Governors to the Santa Fe Indian School Board of Trustees, where he served as president, and the Albuquerque Indian School Oversight Commission as the Northern Pueblo Representative. Mr. Martinez is an avid hunter and hiker. He advocates the rights of Native Peoples, equity and parity in policy, and socioeconomic justice for Native Peoples and Pueblos, Tribes, and Nations.
