Dickinson at Universal Orlando - Summer 2026
This program is pending APSC approval.
Spend an unforgettable three weeks this summer at Universal Orlando Resort, home to some of the world’s most thrilling and imaginatively engineered theme parks. Immerse yourself in the worlds of Jurassic Park, The Simpsons, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Super Nintendo World, and more. You won’t just visit some of the most popular themed lands on the planet—you’ll study the mathematics and related disciplines behind the magic.
Using the theme parks at Universal Orlando Resort as a backdrop, this course explores real-world applications of mathematics and data science. Students will investigate topics across applied mathematics—including probability, statistics, optimization, graph theory, combinatorics, and mathematical modeling—through direct observation and hands-on analysis of guest flow, attraction efficiency, and operational decision-making.
Over the three-week program, students will make daily excursions to the parks to gather data, develop and test hypotheses, and complete both small and large projects. Each day will include mini-lectures and discussions to reinforce key concepts, held in a variety of settings such as outdoor spaces, the suite’s common area, and even inside the parks themselves.
In the final week, students will design and carry out an independent project, collecting and analyzing data, making predictions, and testing solutions. They will present their findings to the group at the end of the course.

Burgess Workshop Series: AI as a Partner
AI as a Partner:
AI isn’t going away—but how you use it matters. AI as a Partner is a workshop that helps students move from using AI as a shortcut to using it as a tool for deeper thinking, better planning, and stronger decision-making. Rather than teaching “AI tricks,” this session focuses on understanding problems, recognizing what you know (and what you don’t), and learning how to work with AI without giving up ownership of your work. Students leave with practical strategies for using AI thoughtfully in academic and everyday contexts—and a clearer sense of when AI is helping versus when it’s doing too much.
This workshop consists of two separate days with the first day 2/10/2026 and the second day 2/17/2026 (attendance is required at each session to receive a certificate of completion)
If you sign-up for 2/10/26 session you are automatically enrolled in 2/17/26 session. Each session runs from 4:45-6:30 pm.
** Light dinner provided

Write for Life: A 6-Week Book Discussion and Writing Group for Faculty and Staff

Meetings will take place in the CTLS now located in the lower level of the Waidner-Spahr Library. Participants will explore writing as a sustaining life practice through discussion, guided reflection, and dedicated writing time in a supportive, low-pressure environment. To foster meaningful conversation and community, participation is limited to the first 10 registrants. The book will be provided. Registration deadline: February 20. To register, email CTLS@dickinson.edu.

New for 2025:
If applicable, qualified overtime received for 2025 is reported in box 14 of the W2.
Qualified overtime refers to the extra premium paid (the “half-time” portion) for hours worked beyond 40 in a week that is required under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
For tax years 2025 through 2028, individuals who receive qualified overtime compensation may deduct the pay that exceeds their regular rate of pay (the “half” portion of “time-and-a-half” compensation).
Because Dickinson’s over-time policy is more generous than that required by the FLSA, the qualified overtime reported in box 14 of the W2 may not match the overtime paid reported on pay slips.

The Trout Gallery is now accepting applications for The Trout Workshop.
Make your mark on the Trout! Art museums can and should be places that ignite curiosity, self-discovery, learning, socialization, and personal connectedness for everyone. Trout Workshop collaborators work with Trout staff to put these values into practice and provide input on all areas of Trout operations in bi-monthly workshops (Thursdays 12-1:15 PM). During workshop sessions, the group will create social media content, test and evaluate art activities, lesson plans, and exhibition tours, and offer personal reflections about connections between art museums and the world we live in. Trout Workshop collaborators also plan a spring social event, The Trout Gala, for Dickinson students. Collaborators get behind-the-scenes access, learn about museum operations, and make the Trout a better place, all while gaining valuable transferable skills.
Maximum 35, applicants accepted in the order received.
3 Hours per month, expect increased hours in the four weeks before Trout Gala.
