Thomas Reed was an English professor at Dickinson from 1977 through 2015, specializing in medieval and Victorian literature and film studies. His recent novel, Seeking Hyde, grew directly from courses he taught at Dickinson on the life and works of Robert Louis Stevenson, a focus that also led to the publication of The Transforming Draught, a scholarly study of Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as an allegory of alcoholism. Reed earned his B.A. from Yale University and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, and was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship at Oxford University. He is the author of Middle English Debate Poetry and the Aesthetics of Irresolution and a number of short stories published in literary journals. Seeking Hyde has been named a finalist for the 2018 INDIES Book of the Year Award in historical fiction.
