Join us at The Trout Gallery for a tour and discussion of two exhibitions that examine the history of what was to become The Carlisle Indian Industrial School. The show "Re-riding History" reflects on what was to become the prequel to the Carlisle Indian School—the incarceration and mandatory acculturation of seventy-two Plains Indians at Fort Marion (St. Augustine, Fla., 1875–1878). "Resisting the Mission" is an exhibition of contemporary baskets by Shan Goshorn, an Eastern-band Cherokee artist who infuses her designs with text and imagery that address the experiences of individuals attending the Carlisle Indian School.
