From Data to Decisions: Careers in Political and Advocacy Research – a conversation with Taryn Abbassian ’12, Associate Director of Research & Insights for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America 

Taryn Abbassian is a passionate advocate working in progressive politics and social policy and has a degree in Political Science from Dickinson College ('12) and a Masters in Public Policy & Gender Studies from George Washington University. She currently serves as the Associate Director for Research & Insights at Planned Parenthood Federation of America. At PPFA, Taryn works with the research and advocacy teams to conduct long term research projects on abortion and sexual and reproductive health. Prior to her work at PPFA, Taryn served as the Associate Research Director at NARAL where she helped lead the organization's research, polling, and political messaging work.  

Before working in the reproductive health and rights space, Taryn worked as the Research and Program Manager for EMILY's List Independent Expenditure team and as an Opposition Researcher at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. In these roles Taryn conducted candidate and opposition research to support democratic candidates running for office. She has also worked in a research and policy capacity with NFPRHA, AAUW, and the EEOC. She is fiercely committed to reproductive freedom, racial and economic justice, gender equity, and LGBTQ+ rights and has spent her career working for organizations and political candidates that fight for these issues.
