CFNP Sunrise Ceremony

September 5, 2024

What is a Sunrise Ceremony?

Join us as we kick off the semester with a blessing from the Indigenous Elder Euguene Black Crow (Oglala Lakota Sioux Nation he'matanhan), a descendant from the Carlisle Indian Industrial School.

What is a Sunrise Ceremony?

For many Indigenous Peoples, the sunrise is a sacred time for reflection, observance, thanksgiving, and community. Elders often provide guidance and prayers for the People during ceremonies. We welcome everyone to our gathering to begin the semester in a good way!

What will happen at the Sunrise Ceremony?

We will form a circle in the Quad. Dr. Mandy Cheromiah (Laguna Pueblo), CFNP executive director, will welcome everyone. Then, Elder Eugene Black Crow will provide a blessing/prayer and words of encouragement to the People. Next, those in attendance will have an opportunity to introduce themselves. We’ll have closing remarks and invite the community to join us at the CFNP for refreshments and fellowship!
