Film Screening of 'LIFT: A Journey from Homelessness to the Ballet Stage'

February 23, 2024

Join us in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium (ATS) for a free film screening of "LIFT: A Journey from Homelessness to the Ballet Stage."

Filmed over a decade, this documentary illuminates the hidden struggles of homelessness in America through the poignant journey of young ballet dancers facing home insecurity in New York City. Artistic Director Steven Melendez, a former resident of a Bronx shelter, returns to his roots to offer a New York Theatre Ballet workshop to children, only to embark on an unexpected journey of self-discovery with three young dancers. Directed by David Petersen and Executive Misty Copeland, the film explores resilience and self discovery. There will be a Q&A with Steven Melendez following the screening. Please bring toiletries or personal care items for donation to Safe Harbour's shelter residents.

This event is co-sp onsored by Safe Harbour, the Office of the President, Department of Theatre and Dance, and the Center for Civic Learning & Action.
