Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging. While the art form is almost 600 years old, today it is firmly ensconced in the modern arts. It is a form of meditation, is frequently mentioned in wellness programs, and is a proven therapy within the medical community. Ellen Kelley will demonstrate this ancient art, and discuss how ikebana fosters connections between people and the natural world. As she creates beautiful ikebana arrangements with plant material from campus, Ellen will discuss how to find and redefine beauty where we live and work. You will learn the many benefits of ikebana from artistic expression to a cultivator of flow in your work life. Bring your lunch and come develop a new lens with which to view Dickinson College.
