Since the assassination of President Jovenal Moïse in July 2021, the Haitian people have experienced drastically increased gang violence and economic turmoil, and are now facing a grave humanitarian disaster. This event aims to inform our community about this current catastrophe and express our solidarity with Haitians, near and far. To this end, Christopher Kovats-Bernat, scholar of Haiti and co-founder of the local non-profit organization, Projet Gros Mangles, will speak about the different factors that have thrust Haiti into this dire situation. Additionally, Kovats-Bernat will be accompanied by other co-founders of his non-profit who will share their experiences working to strengthen and uplift the community of Gros Mangles in Haiti through financial, medical and educational support. Dinner will be provided by Ti Boutik Caribbean and Haitian Cuisine, with vegetarian and gluten-free options.
