Pre-Departure Orientation Workshop: Health, Safety, and Wellness Abroad

November 2, 2022

Part of the mandatory multi-part pre-departure intercultural workshop series.

This PDO Workshop is part of the mandatory multi-part pre-departure intercultural workshop series for students who plan to study abroad during the Spring 2023 semester. Students need to attend each of these workshops, but can do so in any order:

  • Health, Safety, and Wellness Abroad
  • Perceptions of Identity in Different Cultural Contexts

This workshop will be offered on select Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays throughout the fall 2022 semester. Students only have to attend each workshop once.

Due to the limited number of spaces available in each workshop, you must sign-up through Totara, by logging in with your Dickinson credentials and registering for the course. If you have any questions, please email

In order to prepare for the workshop, all attendees must complete activities before attending the session, which are accessible on Totara. Your participation in the session will not be considered complete until you have both attended the workshop and completed the activities.

The narrative of study abroad often focuses on its transformative nature while glossing over the hard work and challenges of crossing cultures. For some students, this is work they are doing every day on our campus and, for others, this will be new. Through the lenses of health, well-being and safety, this session will help students grapple with the unknown and prepare to be uncomfortable.
