Building Campus Inclusion Week Workshop: Allyship is a Verb

September 24, 2021

Civic Skills Academy Workshop.

As Building Campus Inclusion Week closes, students and staff at CCLA will offer a culminating workshop as a way to bridge and synergize the week’s topics. Join us for this interactive session where we’ll explore how to advocate with and for marginalized communities through the framework of allyship.

Beyond just an identity, allyship is a lifelong commitment to active listening, support, and solidarity with people of different identities who face ongoing injustices and oppressions. Allies understand that working for equity demands both personal and interpersonal growth, and they use their areas of privilege to speak and act on behalf of, but not in place of, marginalized community members. In this workshop, we’ll investigate questions related to effective allyship, reflect on our own roles and possibilities as allies, and cover key terms in social justice work, all to deepen our understanding of how to show up for marginalized communities.

No prior experience is needed to attend and partake in this workshop. We will offer a welcoming, affirming space to all. Please RSVP through EngageD so we can anticipate the number of attendees.
